Criminal justice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Criminal equity - Essay Example There is additionally a more up to date characterization which is the National Incident-Based Reporting System or NIBRS which is an updated variant of the UCR (Samaha, 2006). These frameworks are on the whole altogether different. They go from arbitrary inspecting based overviews to the more unmistakable across the country rate studies. The more well known of all of then is the Uniform Crime Reports as led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This is the first to be refered to in wrongdoing detailing insights since it depends on genuine information accumulated all through the nation every year. The others, being essentially founded on test populaces taken aimlessly sensibly yields an increasingly ambiguous suspicion with regards to results. Factually, they have a higher rate with regards to room for give and take. We can really group wrongdoing revealing estimating frameworks into two legitimate sorts, the official wrongdoing measurements and the informal wrongdoing insights . They are additionally accumulated at various stages (Wold and Weis). I find that the official reports are increasingly helpful on the grounds that they depend on real information. After some time this framework has changed and included different sorts of increasingly particular information, for example, the Hate Crime Statistics and the Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (Federal Bureau of Investigation). It’s most up to date expansion, the NIBRS is an all the more tweaked adaptation of the more established UCR.

The Level Of Concentration Is High - 1314 Words

With my research I found that the level of concentration is high enough to suggest that some markets within the construction industry can be considered oligopolistic. It is important to remember that the market structure is only one characteristic of various factors which affects the performance of firms concerned. My research found that within the Materials and components grouping 13/24 markets are oligopolistic. 2/9 is oligopolistic within the Professional consultancy, 2/11 within Plant and equipment and 6/10 in the Energy and supplies group. This helps me to conclude my thoughts in that the level of concentration is high enough to suggest that some markets within the construction industry can be considered oligopolistic. Commercial confidentiality has been a factor in my research as it has prevented me from gaining full access and data required to fully investigate the matter at hand. Therefore some information for certain groupings has been withheld to prevent commercially sensitive data collected by the ONS to be made available to competitors. When this occurs, it is usually a taken as the market being fairly concentrated. There are some obvious irregularities such as ‘Agriculture’ which is listed as ‘not available’ regardless of the fact that it is included within the list of 10 least concentrated sectors. Biography of George Pullman, Sleeping Rail Car Inventor

George Mortimer Pullman (March 3, 1831–Oct. 19, 1897) was a cabinet-maker turned building contractor turned industrialist who developed the Pullman sleeping car in 1857. Pullmans sleeper, designed for overnight passenger travel, was a sensation that revolutionized the railroad industry, replacing the uncomfortable sleeping cars that had been used on American railroads since the 1830s. But he paid a price in labor union animosity that followed him to his grave. Fast Facts: George M. Pullman Known For: Developing the Pullman railroad sleeper carBorn: March 3, 1831 in Brocton,  New YorkParents: James Pullman, Emily PullmanDied: Oct. 19, 1897 in Chicago, IllinoisSpouse: Harriett SangerChildren: Florence, Harriett, George Jr., Walter Sanger Early Life Pullman was the third of 10 children born to James and Emily Pullman in Brocton, New York. The family relocated to Albion, New York, in 1845 so that Pullman’s father, a carpenter, could work on the  Erie Canal. James Pullmans specialty was moving structures out of the way of the canal with jackscrews and another device he patented in 1841. Move to Chicago When James Pullman died in 1853, George Pullman took over the business. He won a contract with the state of New York the next year to move 20 buildings from the canals path. In 1857, Pullman opened a similar business in  Chicago, Illinois, where much help was needed in raising buildings above the  Lake Michigan  flood plain. Pullman’s company was one of several hired to lift multistory buildings and whole city blocks by four to six feet. Ten years after he moved to Chicago, he married Harriett Sanger. They had four children: Florence, Harriett, and twins George Jr., and Walter Sanger. Working on the Railroad Pullman realized that new buildings with better foundations would reduce the citys need for his services and decided to go into manufacturing and leasing railroad cars. The railroad system was booming, and although the greatest need was for transporting raw materials and finished goods, he had a different idea. He frequently traveled by railroad in pursuit of business but found regular cars to be uncomfortable and dirty. The sleeping cars were just as unsatisfactory, with cramped beds and poor ventilation. He decided to focus on the passenger experience. Partnering with  Benjamin Field, a friend and former New York state senator, he decided to build a sleeper that was not just comfortable. He wanted luxury. He persuaded the Chicago, Alton, and St. Louis Railroad to let him convert two of its cars. The Pullman Sleepers debuted in August  1859 and were a roaring success, with reviewers comparing them to luxury  steamboat  cabins. Pullman briefly succumbed to gold fever, relocating to Colorado and catering to miners before returning to Chicago in the 1860s. He devoted himself to making the sleepers even more luxurious. A Better Sleeper The first made-from-scratch Pullman—the â€Å"Pioneer,† developed with Field—debuted in 1865. It had folding upper berths and seat cushions that could be extended to make lower berths. The cars were expensive, but they gained national attention and increased demand when several of them were included in the train that took Abraham Lincoln’s body from Washington, D.C., back to  Springfield,  Illinois, following his assassination in 1865. (The slain president’s son,  Robert Todd Lincoln,  succeeded Pullman as president of the Pullman Co. after Pullmans death in 1897, serving until 1911.) In 1867, Pullman and Field dissolved their partnership and Pullman became president of the new  Pullman Palace Car Co. In 12 years the company was offering 464 cars for lease. The new company also manufactured and sold freight, passenger, refrigerator, street, and elevated cars. As the railroad industry continued to develop and Pullman prospered, he paid $8 million in 1880 for construction of the town of Pullman, Illinois, on 3,000 acres adjacent to his factory west of Lake Calumet. It provided housing, shops, and other amenities for his company employees at all income levels. Union Strike Pullman, which eventually became a neighborhood of Chicago, was the site of a vicious labor strike beginning in May 1894. Over the previous nine months, the Pullman factory had reduced its workers wages but did not lower the cost of living in its houses. Pullman workers joined labor organizer and American socialist leader Eugene Debs American Railroad Union (ARU) in the spring of 1894 and shut down the factory with a strike on May 11. When management refused to deal with the ARU, the union prompted a nationwide boycott of Pullman cars on June 21. Other groups within the ARU started sympathy strikes on behalf of the Pullman workers in an attempt to paralyze the nations railroad industry. The U.S. Army was called into the dispute on July 3, and the arrival of soldiers sparked widespread violence and looting in Pullman and Chicago. The strike unofficially ended four days later when Debs and other union leaders were jailed. The Pullman factory reopened in August and denied local union leaders an opportunity to return to their jobs. Following the strike, the Pullman Co. continued to thrive. While his factory maintained production of railroad sleeping cars, Pullman also ran the company that built the elevated railway system in  New York City. Death Pullman died of a  heart attack  on Oct. 19, 1897, at the age of 66. The bitter strike left Pullman reviled by the labor movement. So deep was the lingering animosity and fear that, to ward off vandalism or desecration of his body, Pullman was buried in a lead-lined coffin inside an elaborately reinforced, steel-and-concrete vault with walls that were 18 inches thick. Over this were laid steel rails placed at right angles to each other and bolted together. Everything was then covered in tons of concrete. The pit dug for the elaborate vault was the size of an average room. Legacy The Pullman Co. merged with the Standard Steel Car Co. in 1930 and became the Pullman-Standard Co. In 1982, the company built its last car for  Amtrak, and soon afterward the company faded away. By 1987, the assets had been sold off. Pullman transformed the railroad sleeping car from a smelly, cramped mess into rolling luxury, making overnight train travel more appealing to those who could afford it. He created an enormous business that made his name synonymous with a major component of the railroad industry. Sources George M. Pullman: American Industrialist and Inventor. Project Management Systems Approach To Planning - Scheduling - and Cont

Question: Discuss about the Project Management for Systems Approach To Planning, Scheduling, and Controlling? Answer: Primary data All data and information obtained by the researcher himself in for some specific reason is known as primary data. Primary data is collected by surveys, interviews or by focusing on groups and discussing the research topic (Burke 2013). The advantage of primary data is that the researcher can focus on both the qualitative and the quantitative issue of the research. Primary research can be very expensive, as the researcher has to develop and execute a research plan. This can also be time consuming and low response rate has to be expected from primary research. Secondary data Secondary data is the data that is collected from the primary data. Someone else already collected this data, previously. The common methods of secondary data collection are census, organisational records and data collected through qualitative methodologies orqualitative research. Secondary data collection techniques save time and are less costly than the primary data. Creating plan for data collection (Primary and Secondary) Quantitative and qualitative data are the two types of data that are available where data can be in the form of photographs, charts and images, verses, details, statistics, etc. (Pawar 2004) stated that quantitative data are the data that can be expressed in numbers and are gathered from surveys, questionnaires, trails, etc. Qualitative data are those that cannot be expressed in numbers and they represent the nominal scale data like socio economic data, gender, etc. It is necessary for the researcher to gather data to carry out the research and generate a better output. Though primary data can be collected in various ways of research, interviews or observation, interviews are the important ways to get the data as customers feedback are very important. To collect primary data, a company can use their sites, ecommerce link for survey by adding short questionnaire (Van De Walle Turoff and Hiltz 2014). To collect secondary data, they are collected from the already-existed data and this m akes the data collection easier. Primary data collection is a tougher task, which begins with proper planning of the survey, developing of questionnaire, interviews of various kinds, customers observation and other available methods. Presenting the sampling frame and methodology used in the research The methodology is considered as a tool for collecting data for a particular research. This case deals with collection of important information about the requirements, likings and disliking, products knowledge, additional values needed, improved ideas for invention , etc., of cyclists. For this, closed questions and open questions are used to make survey question list. Curwin and Burke (2013) stated that questionnaire and surveys are the two ways to conduct the survey. Qualitative assessment and quantitative design are the two other ways to do the survey. Probability sampling and non-probability sampling are the two types of sampling that have different approaches in sampling techniques. Cluster sampling, simple random sampling, stratified sampling and systematic sampling methods are probability-sampling methods. Snowball sample method, quota sampling and judgmental sample methods are the non-probability sampling methods. For this survey, open-end questions and close end questions, b oth are appropriate for survey and non-probability sampling technique is the appropriate to carry out data sampling. In the given example, the average demand is known as the arithmetic mean of the problem. The average represents the mean size of the population. The total advertising expenditure turned out to be 183 (000). There are 7 consecutive years from 2007 to 2013. The average advertising expenditure for these 7 years is 183/7 = 26.14 (000). The total food sales (000) was 1270. There were 7 consecutive years from 2007 to 2013. Therefore, the mean food sales for the 7 years was 1270/7 = 181.429 (00). The company, A2D, had less expenditure for advertising. However, the advertising expenditure was less than the average, but the sales of the food increased in every year. This hinted at the fact that though the amount spent on advertising was less, but the selling of food had increased over the years, which was due to the previous advertisements (Anderson et al. 2014). The customers had faith on the products of the company and thus they were loyal toward the company. AD2 performed well during the year 2011, 2012 compared to the previous years, though there was a slight decrease in food sales during 2013. Mode is that measure that gives the most frequently occurring value of the data set. Modal value can be easily found out. From the given surveyed values, it was found that the modal value of Advertising expenditure (000) was 25 while the modal value of Food sales (000) was 0. Thus, there was a repeat value for Advertising expenditure but there was no repeat value for Food sales. Median is the measure when the data are ordered. Median is the middle most number of an ordered data set. Median for Advertising expenditure was found out to be 26 and the median for Food sales was 190. The data set of Advertising expenditure (000) follows a uniform distribution as the mean, median and mode are nearly equal. They also follow a symmetrical pattern. Analyzing the obtained results to derive business results for the chosen company The above table highlights that the advertising expenditure in the year 2009, 30000pounds, was maximum. The advertising expenditure was increasing from the year 2007 and it reached its maximum of 30000 pounds in the year 2009. This expenditure was beyond the average expenditure of 26000 pounds. Therefore, the company spent lots of money on advertising during this period. The advertising expenditure started decreasing from the year 2010 and reached its minimum of 22000 pounds in the year 2013. Thus, the advertising expenditure was below the average expenditure of 26000 pounds by 2013. It was also seen from the above chart that the food sales were increasing from 2007 to 2012 steadily. However, in 2013, the food sale decreased by 30000 pound from 2012. In 2013, though the food sale was above average of 181000 pounds, but there was a decrease in the sale. The reason may be due to the decrease in advertising expenditure or may be the customers had lost faith in A2D limited. From the year 2007 to 2009, the food sale of A2D limited was below the average of 181000 pounds. There were no extreme values for food sales or advertising expenditure. There can be an improvement in the organization in the near future by not letting the advertisement expenditure cross the average of 26140 pounds per year and to check that the average food sale do not fall below the average sale of 181000 pounds per year. There must be a constant growth in the food sale keeping the advertisement cost below the average. The company must target in long-term achievements in food sales. It was seen that the business increased as the food sales increased on an average of 20000 pounds every year. This increase in food sale must be increased more in order to flourish the business. They must also reach to more customers by various other means other than advertisement by keeping the advertisement expenditure below the average. Data Analysis by usage of inter quartile range and Standard Deviation for the business stakeholders min 22 120 max 30 230 range 8 110 Q1 25 160 Q3 27.5 205 IR (Q3-Q1) 2.5 45 standard deviation 2.544836 37.607 Table 1: Measures of dispersion (Source: created by author) The difference between the maximum and minimum values of a data set is known as range which tells us about the spread of the data. The range is a poor measure of dispersion as it gets highly influenced by the extreme values. From the given figures, the range for advertising expenditure is 8000 pounds and that of food sale is 110000 pounds. A2D limited can make this range smaller and they could keep it near the averages during the forward movement of the business. Inter-quartile range is the difference between the 3rd quartile and the 1st quartile. This shows the distribution of the middle part of the data set. Standard deviation is the systematic measure of dispersion that is the average measurement of distance of data values from the mean of the data. Lower the standard deviation, higher is the accuracy of the data. Standard deviation does not depend upon the sample size. The standard deviation for the advertising expenditure is 2.54, which is less. This is because the company wanted to reduce the advertising expenditure while the standard deviation of foods sales is 37.61. This is because the company was steadily increasing its sales over the last 7 years. Thus, it could be seen that there was a steady increase in the business and there was development in the business (Gravetter and Wallnau 2016). Explaining the process of deriving business decisions through usage of Quartiles, Percentiles and Correlation Coefficient The correlation coefficient between the two data sets shows -0.2463. The correlation coefficient here is negative which indicates that the increase in one variable led to the decrease in another variable. Here, decrease in advertising cost led to the increase in food sales. However, the correlation coefficient is very weak, 0.2463, which concluded that advertising actually had not helped A2D in increase in its food sales (Anderson et al. 2014). However, the reality is different as we can see that when A2D first opened, its advertising cost was 25000 pounds and the foods sale was 120000 pounds. As years passed by, the advertising cost decreased while the food sale increased, though there was an increase in advertising expenditure from 2007 to 2009 and it decreased thereafter. The food sale, though, continued to increase until 2012 and there was a slight decrease in 2013. Few recommendations are required for further increase in business and better business. Attracting more customers would indirectly lead to the promotion of A2D, as these customers would recommend the restaurant to other customers as well. The restaurant does not have to pay for the promotion and it would be promoted without the knowledge of the customers. The restaurant must also provide discounts on bills or free first drinks, etc. to its customers in order to attract more of them. Quartiles and percentiles are other measures of analysis. The Q1 and Q3 of advertising expenditure is 25 and 160, while that of food sales is 27.5 and 205. The first 25% of data for advertising expenditure lies within the values of 25 and the last 25% beyond 160. For, food sales, the first 25% data lie within 27.5 while the last 25% is beyond 205. Percentiles are almost same as quartiles where Q1 is the 25th percentile, Q2 is the 50th percentile, and i.e. the median of the data and Q3 is the 75th percentile of the data. The results of the percentile can be explained in the same manner as quartiles. Year Advertising expenditure (000) FFood sales (000) 2007 25 1120 2008 28 1150 2009 30 1170 2010 26 1190 2011 27 2210 2012 25 2230 2013 22 2200 Graphical representation for deriving Business Conclusion (Bar, Pie and Line Charts) Chart 1: pie chart of advertising expenditure (Source: created by author) This shows that the advertising expenditure increased over 1st 4 years and then it decreased for the next 3 years. A2D had been trying to modify their expenditures before and the expenditures started decreasing from 2010. Chart 2: pie chart of food sales (Source: created by author) The food sales steadily increased till 2012 and then it decreased a little on 2013. There could be different offers that came up which increased the sale of A2D. Also, increase in population and tourists might lead to increase in the sale of A2D as years passed by. Chart 3: line chart of food sales and advertising expenditure (Source: created by author) Line chart shows that the business of A2D was low during 2007. This was the beginning year of A2D. So this could be the reason for its low business. The food sales increased as year passed by and 2012 saw the maximum sales which could be the effect of London Olympics or the well advertising effects. Chart 4: bar graph of food sales and advertising expenditure (Source: created by author) The bar graph shows that the advertising cost was lower than the food sale which was good business. It also shows that there was a steady increase in the food sale though there ws a decrease in it in 2013 which may be due to recession. Sales and Expenses forecast with scatter diagram and trend lines Chart 5: scatter plot of advertising expenditure (Source: created by author) Chart 6: scatter plot of food sales (Source: created by author) The scatter plot along with the trend lines shows that the food sale of A2D is increasing every year and the predicted value of it by 2015 is 270,000 pound. The scatter plot also shows that the advertising expenditure is showing a downward trend and it is getting minimised every year. The expected advertising cost by 2015 is 24,000 pound. Dissemination of Business information for business presentation Formal Business Report based on the findings from Task 3.1 to 3.3 A2D started its business in 2007. This chain of restaurant is famous for its African and European dishes. It has 20 restaurants in London (South) and wants to increase its business in west London. For this the company is conducting a survey to forecast the business know the destiny of the organisation. The relationship between the sales and advertising is seen as a positive relationship that will help the business to grow in the near future. Once the restaurant is famous, its growth in the business is obvious even if the advertising cost decreases. Conclusion and Recommendation A2D has potential in performing well in the business. It can be recommended that strong promotional words could be used to promote the restaurant which will also decrease the cost of advertising as these words will spread by the customers itself. The business could be expanded not only in the west London, but also in the other parts of London, though research and survey must be conducted well before the onset of the business. The forecast of the business is pretty well. Predictions must be done carefully so as to avoid troubles and loss in the near future and changes can be made if problem arises. Management information system The study of people, technology, organization and the relationships between them is known as management information systems(MIS) which helps a firm to know the maximum profit from the investments and services using the technologies. These are typically computer systems used for managing data and analyze the market to help he firm know about their future growth (Walle et al. 2014.). This term , academically, means the study of individuals and organizations and how they evaluate their plans , designs , and manage and implement their systems for generating information regarding the maximum profit from the investments. A2d could manage their orders by using different methods such as card scheme. They can also keep a track of the orders and manage them accordingly. The inventory department of the restaurant could keep a track of the preferred orders and they can suggest the restaurant for the dishes that are preferred by the costumers. Thus the organization could have a proper arrangement of orders that are preferred by its customers. They can also ask for feed backs from the customers. Project Management The process in which the project is planned, organized, motivated and the resources are controlled to achieved the desired goals is known as project management(Burke, 2013.). Here, various constraints are figured out and work is done upon them to minimise the constraints and maximize the profit of the organisation. Various technical skills and managerial skills are used to make the project management a successful one so that the business has a profit for it(Kerzner, 2013). References Kerzner, H.R., 2013. If you  can manage a name that matches top  keywords, exactly or partially, both people and search engines can find your  blog more easily.Lets say that football is my passion and I want to start blogging about it. My first choice for a blog name including  the keyword football might be something like All About Football. The domain URL will then read http://www.allaboutfootball.com.However, www.allaboutfootball.com  is already taken. Beethoven, Handel, and Bach essays

Beethoven, Handel, and Bach essays Try this. Play for someone a random selection of classical music and ask him or her to identify a given piece. Now do the same with Joy to the World by Johann Sebastian Bach, The Messiah: Hallelujah Chorus by George Frederic Handel, and The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Undoubtedly, the second group was more recognizable to the listener. And for good reason. These are three of the most accomplished composers in history, each contributing vastly to the music of the last four centuries. Each came from different circumstances and approached their career from a different angle. Johann Sebastian Bach was born and died in Germany. He grew up the son of a church organist, studied organ in the church, and spent the rest of his life employed by various churches as a German organmeister, in charge of playing, fixing and tuning the organ. He also supervised and instructed the choirboys education. In the few moments he had between church meetings, organ tunings, and teaching he would write page after page of music to be performed at congregations or in lessons. Throughout his life, Bach seemed to be driven to explore all the possibilities of a given style or genre. The Brandenburg Concertos were put together as a kind of a musical rsum in a desperate attempt to get out of his routine position. Sadly, he didnt get the job and it was back to the church for poor old Bach. As you might expect, Bach died in relative obscurity and poverty, yet his death in 1750 heralded the end of an Era, and his life was a monument to creativity: In addition to his innumerable volumes of musical compositions, he also had twenty children-Bach truly was a master organ player. Unlike Bach, George Frideric Handel was not born into a musical family, and was forced to study music in secrecy to avoid upsetting his father. Of the three composers under dissection, music was the least accessible to Handel. His talent would not go unnotic...

Descartes Meditation Essay Example for Free

Descartes Meditation Essay 1. If Descartes’s aim is to find certainty, why does he proceed by doubting as many things as he can? He feels that as long as he goes on believing his old beliefs, laziness and habit will block him from receiving any truths. He feels that if he regards his beliefs in the same way as he does any falsehoods he can remain unbiased when judging information and only then will he receive real truths. 2. What reason does he give for doubting that the senses give knowledge? That a man asleep can have a realistic dream that he is having the same experiences as a man thats awake. 3. What does the experience of â€Å"dreams† show us concerning the senses? He talks about how real dreams appear even though they are proven to be deceiving. And if one can be deceived in a dream by all of their senses can they not also be deceived in reality by some supernatural demon. He says hypothetically that God may not have created earth, shapes, etc. and everything that we sense could be a form of deception. 4. Why can he doubt even that 2=3 = 5. He talks about the fact that he sometimes doubt others who claim to have the most perfect knowledge. And if that can be the case for them cant it also be possible for him to be wrong about â€Å"obvious† truths. Also, if one may feel that if Gods goodness would stop him from being deceived SOME of the time, wouldnt it stop him from being deceived ALL of the time since he is clearly deceived some of the time. Basically he is acknowledging the fact that he could be wrong.

The Role of Women in Screwball Comedy Films :: Movies

The Role of Women in Screwball Comedy Films Joan Wilder: You're leaving? You're leaving me?! Jack Colton: You're gonna be all right, Joan Wilder. Yea. You always were. Like a contemporary Dorothy, Romancing the Stone's Joan Wilder must travel to Columbia and survive incredible adventures to learn that she had always been a capable and valuable person. Romancing the Stone (Robert Zemeckis, 1984) is part of a series of 1980s action comedies that disrupted previous expectations for female heroines. These female protagonists manage to subvert the standard action narrative and filmic gaze, learning to rescue themselves and to resist others' limited vision of them. Not only did these action comedies present strong female characters, they also offered a new filmic experience for female audiences. The commercial success of comic action heroines paved the way for women to appear in serious action roles--without the personal sacrifices required of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley. Figures like Joan Wilder serve as an important link between previous strong yet feminine screen personas and current female stars. Led by Laura Mulvey, feminist film critics have discussed the difficulty presented to female spectators by the controlling male gaze and narrative generally found in mainstream film, creating for female spectators a position that forces them into limited choices: "bisexual" identification with active male characters; identification with the passive, often victimized, female characters; or on occasion, identification with a "masculinized" active female character, who is generally punished for her unhealthy behavior. Before discussing recent improvements, it is important to note that a group of Classic Hollywood films regularly offered female spectators positive, female characters who were active in controlling narrative, gazing and desiring: the screwball comedy. Comedy often allows for a subversion of the status quo that is not tolerated in more serious genres. Beginning in the 1930s, the subgenre of screwball comedy presented female characters who were active and desiring, without evoking negative characterizations as "unfeminine" or "trampish." Screwball comedies represent a specific form of romantic comedy that features a complicated situation--or more often a series of complications--centered around a strong-willed, unpredictable female. The comedy is generally physical as well as verbal. Screwball and other forms of romantic comedy do not just reverse the masculine/active, feminine/passive paradigm--which as E. Ann Kaplan notes accomplishes little in terms of change--but instead strengthens the female and weakens the male just enough to put them on more equal footing.

Khan Academy

With the Khan-Academy systematics, I feel that it is actually a tool that helps many others like myself who may be attending math classes in school. As a child in elementary school, the Internet program helped me start filling the â€Å"Swiss cheese† gaps Khan talked about. The â€Å"Swiss cheese† gaps, are the things people didn’t learn while they were in math classes, where the teacher simply did not go into great detail of explaining. The way the gaps began to be filled, was that it actually challenged me to a greater potential that I thought could not be achieved. In fact many others in my class treated the program as a game in a good way, as on the Internet program one wins a copious amount of prizes in which we used to brag to each other on. To win prizes they may consist of answering a specific amount of questions or becoming persistent at working with Khan-Academy. Something the program has definitely made up is the intolerable position in which unfit teac hers put there students into. The math teachers usually do not help enough or teach only one way, and this is the full reason on why some student actually end up failing their classes. With Khan-Academy some how the student that ended up failing their math classes, now have grades like the visually impaired gifted ones, which also may show how poorly the teachers may have taught their students. Another good point Khan made happen to be the interactions that started to make place amongst the student of classes, in which the ones that did not understand the lessons could know get taught by other students that may have had a full understanding of whatever the problem or problems were.A way the Khan-Academy is assuring that the help that is given is accurate, is that within the program itself it has a way a keeping track who is excelling, and who may not be. Either way one may take the program, it benefits everyone in a various amount of ways and has been a major help in classes across A merica by helping student who did not excel in math class before.

Stages and Prognosis of Breast Cancer - 3785 Words

Breast Cancer 3 Running Head: Stages and Prognosis of Breast Cancer Stages and Prognosis of Breast Cancer Abstract Breast cancer is one of the major causes of death in cancer patients all over the world. Tumor node- metastasis (TNM) is a standard staging system for breast cancer. TNM staging system also provides the basis for the prognosis for breast cancer. The prognosis for breast cancer is majorly based on two factors; tumor size and biological factors. However, these factors have been further divided into subdivisions and have been discussed. In this paper the stages of breast cancer have been discussed along with the prognosis of breast cancer in detail. Stages and Prognosis of Breast Cancer Introduction It has been found that nearly 1.3 million women are suffering from breast cancer all over the world. There are different stages of breast cancer starting from 0 to IV. Cancer staging systems are intended to provide information on prognosis and to guide clinicians in treatment planning (Greene, 2002)(1). Traditionally, breast cancer has been staged using the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) and is known as the Tumor node- metastasis (TNM) system. Developed in 1959, this system has been periodically updated to reflect new knowledge regarding the relationship between disease extent and prognosis, ensuring that the system maintains clinical relevance (Edge, 2009)(2).
